Dexter Doris

Born and raised in New York, Dexter Doris is a violinist who has enjoyed performing and exploring the art of music ever since he was four years old. He began his studies with Helena Baille and Sally Thomas, and by the age of 12, he made his first orchestral debut with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Henri Vieuxtemps’s 4th violin concerto. The following year, Doris was admitted to Juilliard Pre-College to further his training and development. During his first year there, Dexter won the Sound Symphony Competition in Long Island, where he performed Camille Saint-Saens’s 3rd violin concerto. He has served important leadership positions, such as concertmaster and principal second violin of the Pre-College Orchestra. He has since then been named a National YoungArts Foundation winner and a fellow guest artist on NPR's From the Top: Show #430 and has had masterclasses with esteemed artists such as Midori Goto, Lara St. John, and Maxim Vengerov. He has performed at venues such as Alice Tully Hall, Peter Jay Sharp Theatre, Carnegie Hall, and the Temple of Dendur at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He was a 2025 fellow at the Colorado College Summer Music Festival, where he performed Barber’s violin concerto with the festival orchestra and will be returning the following summer. His most recent accomplishment includes a residency at the Frost School of Music (UM) this February with his string quartet, performing Thomas Sleeper’s second string quartet in honor of his professorship. Doris is also proud to study chamber music repertoire played with historic 19th-century fortepiano with Dr. Audry Axinn.
