Orquesta Akokán burst onto the global music scene in 2018 with their no-holds-barred 21st century take on the venerable Cuban mambo lit up stages around the world with a fierce and unremitting joy. Chulo Records producer and multi instrumentalist Jacob Plasse, and arranger Michael Eckroth joined forces with a carefully curated selection of Havana’s most extraordinary musicians as Orquesta Akokán, polishing Cuban mambo’s golden sound to a luminous, contemporary sheen. Along the way Orquesta Akokán imbued these legendary Cuban grooves with a renewed vitality and powerful sense of akokán --- the Yoruba word used by Cubans to mean “from the heart” or “soul.

DIRECTIONS & PARKING: Fremont Theater is located at 1035 Monterey St, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401. Click here for directions via Google Maps. We suggest utilizing city parking structures in the downtown area. Note that due to the Downtown SLO Farmers Market on Thursdays, it may take some additional time to locate parking downtown.

SEATING & RUNTIME: Your ticket for this event will either indicate a row and seat number or it will be a Standing Room/Dance Floor ticket. Fixed theater seating begins in Row L and the standing/dancing area will be in front of the stage. An usher will assist you in finding your seat.

FOOD & DRINK: We are proud to be partnering with the Cubanissimo Food Truck to offer a variety of Cuban-style sandwiches and entrees for purchase in front of the Theater before the show. The food truck will be open for business at 5:30 PM. Additionally, a variety of concessions will be offered for sale by the Fremont Theater bar and concessions stand. The menu includes beer and wine, along with popular movie theater-style concessions stand with fresh popped popcorn, candy, soft drinks, pizza and more. You may also wish to visit the Downtown SLO Farmers Market, which takes place on every Thursday starting on Higuera Street at 6:00 PM.
