Scott Yoo hosts this Notable Encounter Insight that will explore Rachmaninoff's deeply romantic Sonata for Cello and Piano, which will be performed by Robert deMaine and John Novacek. Few composers before Rachmaninoff were able to explore the cello's capacity for tenderness and intensity that this works exhibits. The piano, usually in a subservient role to the string instrument in a sonata, is an equal partner to the cello in this piece. Some have called the piano part "terrifyingly difficult!"
